I met the team behind the radi8er app this week and saw how their new platform will work. It's not being publicly rolled out until their incubative cohort ends on March 30, but the theory behind it is impressive, and I can't wait to try it out.
You can pick and choose your preferences and like and dislike songs to create your own stream, of course, but the most exciting part is the map. You can zoom in and out of a map dotted with information on the who and where of local acts, all the while streaming a collection of music from inputs of anywhere on the visible portion of the map. Artists will get paid through a profit sharing system, much preferred over that of Spotify or Pandora, and should expect to see radi8er backing local music festivals in the near future, too.
